How I Decorated My Small Hallway

When I was cleaning out my guest bedroom I sat this little table in the hall to get it out of the way for a minute. I hadn’t figured out really what I was going to do with that table yet, it didn’t have a “place”. A friend had given it to me and I liked it so it was just stashed in the guest room.

I did like it in the hallway after setting it there but it just stuck out way too far. Then I remembered seeing this post on Pinterest a few years ago and knew exactly what I wanted to do! I was going to cut it in half! Tyler is steadier with a circular saw than I am so I let him handle this one.

But I wasn’t liking the color, so I spray painted it and added a marbled wallpaper to the top. We also cut the drawer in half and I added a back to it so we could actually use it if we wanted to. I just used my nail gun and paint sticks for the back, they were the perfect size, I had a bunch on hand and wouldn’t be seen. I added rub n buff to the metal on the drawer to make it brighter.

I attached the table to the wall with a small L bracket inside the drawer space. You can see the bracket inside, this table is really light so that’s all that was needed to support it.

I also had some picture frames hanging up before this hallway remodel, but I wanted them hung by the picture frame moulding I added. The color clashed with the new hallway colors so I sanded the frames down with my orbital sander and 220 grit sandpaper. The frames aren’t solid wood, they have a wood veneer on the front and sides so I had to be careful not to sand through that.

Then I added a thin chain on to the back and connected them together. These frames aren’t super light weight so a chain is perfect. Plus I love the antique bronze color. I only found out about picture frame moulding and this chain technique from CassMakesHome over on Instagram. To connect the chain I wrapped it around a screw and screwed it tight into place on the back of the frame and it’s held just fine. You can also use these hooks instead.

And here’s how it all came together! This hall was so boring before, but now it has so much character!
