I love the look of a chandelier, but we also live in Texas and it wouldn’t be right to leave our guests without a ceiling fan. Luckily I found the perfect fandelier for this guest room! A fandelier looks like a chandelier or a semi flush mount light, but has hidden blades that pop out when you turn it on. This one has a vintage vibe and I was so excited when I found it! But I leave the electrical work to Tyler so I don’t set the house on fire!
(If you want to purchase this fandelier and it’s out of stock, just keep checking back in because it comes back in stock every few weeks I’ve noticed. The link above also has 2 others that are kind of similar to it.)

Once he had the main part in stalled we turned it on before getting it all together to make sure it worked. The cool thing is the lights aren’t light bulbs, its an LED strip inside the glass part. It has a softer yellow light, a bright light and it does a combo of the two. I’m not lying when I say this thing puts out great air flow! I’d say just as good or better than the previous fan!

Once we knew everything was working right he put the cover on and I’m in love!

I put up a poll on Instagram and Facebook to see what rug I should choose, these were the contenders.

I picked one and ordered it for the space and LOVED the colors. I measured when I ordered it and was afraid the bigger size would be too big and the smaller size would be too small. I went with the smaller size and regretted it so traded it for the bigger size and I’m so glad I did! I have an obsession with Loloi rugs! They are beautiful and the price point is affordable! This one is more of a textured rug, the one in my bedroom and living room are super soft rugs that I would have no problem taking a nap on!

It came time to work on the crown moulding, this stuff is HUGE! My 12in Dewalt miter saw was barely big enough to cut it! It’s about 8in wide. It came from Ekena Millwork and they have so many different options! Same place I got the faux beams in the man cave. They are both made from polyurethane and super light weight, but it does create a lot of fine dust when you cut it with a saw, so if you ever have to cut this it would be smart to wear a mask and safety glasses or goggles like I like to use.

I knew this wasn’t going to be super easy but I thought I had it! I put it up with just my brad nailer and since it is so light weight it holds perfectly!

I started with the “easiest” corner in the room since it was just a 45 corner and no weird angles needed to be cut. But once I got the second piece up it wasn’t matching up perfectly and I have no idea why!

After trying to adjust the cut and the angle it was sitting on the wall I got frustrated and was about to rip it all down and throw it into the street when my neighbor came over to see how it was going. Shane is awesome and likes doing work around the house like I do and has done crown moulding before. So between the both of us (mostly him) we got it done!

This was a hard angle to figure out, it ended up being a 12.5 cut.

Thank God for awesome friends, neighbors and husbands!
Here’s a quick video on the process.
Next I caulked and wood filled everything and then sanded it all. I would tell you how to cut crown but I think explaining it to someone is a little over my head, so I will leave you with this video. We wouldn’t have ever thought to do it like we did if it weren’t for the information we got from that video! He has several videos on crown, I recommend watching them all before you start. I will tell you, when you cut crown on the miter saw, you cut it upside down! That’s easy to remember because it rhymes…and makes sense.

Some people wanted me to leave it white, but that wasn’t the look I was going for in this room. I wanted a moody, vintage and monochromatic look. So I got to painting it Shade Grown by SW, same as the rest of the room.

I envisioned pedestal tables for night stands for this space. I found some that had a marble top and a brass bottom but didn’t want to spend the money on them, so I ended up ordering these instead.

I ordered them knowing I would paint them. The style was very farmhouse and that was not the look I was going for in this room. I didn’t want to paint it white because I felt like it would stand out too much. I would have loved wood tables but matching the color of the bed would have been hard. So I went with black!

I bought paintable outlet covers and light switch covers for the room, because monochromatic, remember?

Next, I bought a blackout roman shade for the window, but when it came in it was very yellow! Way more yellow than it looked online and way yellower than the duvet cover I ordered that I was hoping it would match. Instead of returning it because I hate to return things, I bought fabric paint and tried painting it.

It looked pretty promising till the paint soaked in and I was worried. This is what it looked like the next morning. I ran out of paint before I was done and had to order some more. Still yellow but not AS yellow.

Next, I ordered a dresser for the room because at this point I was ready to be done with the space and didn’t have the patience to build my own dresser or armoire like I had originally planned for this room. This dresser is fine, but It was way more farmhouse than I wanted it to be. So I build a top for it to just slide on top of it and matched the stain color to the bed the best I could.

This was a pretty simple DIY. I just used a board I got from Lowes and some 1x3s for the edges, I did have to rip them down just a tiny bit to allow the drawers to open and then nailed them into place.

Also, I didn’t like the hardware it came with for the drawers and I had some knobs that weren’t being used that I replaced them with. The left are the new knobs and the right are the ones it came with. Again, too farmhouse for the look I was after.

I had the room all pretty and then I got home and this was sitting on top of the dresser!

A gigantic TV that doesn’t fit the room. Now I’m thinking about building my own dresser that has a pop up TV in the back of it! Stay tuned to see if that happens!
