As I said before, Nova’s room has FIVE doors! 2 closet doors, an entry door, a bathroom door and this water heater closet door. That is WAY too many doors in one room, so I came up with the idea of disguising one of them to look like a wall treatment.
I started by scoring the caulk line with my razor knife on the door trim to remove it.

After that I pulled out all the nails.

I opened the paneling for the first time and I LOVE the look and it’s super light weight too! The back is like a felt type material so it’s sound dampening.

I measured from the floor to the ceiling to see what I would need to cut the wood slat paneling down to and they just happened to be the exact length I needed them to be! I had to test fit them first of course!

I got them installed and it was actually super easy! They say you should use black screws but I didn’t have any so I used silver and planned to paint them black.

Once I got it installed, (everything but the far left piece, it was just pushed into place for now) I knew I wanted to paint the gold hinges black so it wouldn’t be so obvious.

And when you stood right in front, you can see where the gap was that needed to be painted.

I took the far left panel off and painted it along with the hinges. I used craft paint for the wall/door and black finger nail polish for the hinges and screws.

Here’s a quick video on the process.
This is how it turned out and I’m LOVING it! If I did it again I’d try to make the gap between the panels smaller where the hinges are, but I think it’s still pretty cool!

What do you think? Would you have concealed this door?
Next up, the reveal!!!!!
